Kudos to you if you have tried to resolve your situation with self help but you recognize that internet videos and friendly advice aren’t quite enough to overcome your current life challenges. In my seventeen years as a therapist, I have worked with thousands of clients similar to you who have disclosed to me after a few sessions that they were so glad that they finally called me.
So why would you hire Patricia Milks (Rusinek) as your therapist?
Sometimes hiring a professional "just makes sense". Have you ever tried to do your own finish carpentry, plumbing or taxes and realized that you needed professional skills for the job? Afterward, you watch this hired professional finish the job with the right tools, in less time and you are so pleased with the results that you wonder why you didn’t place the call sooner. (Does this sound like the voice of experience? J )
Productive therapy is about hiring the right fit for the individual(s) and the situation. Beautiful shoes with perfect craftsmanship in the wrong size are still the wrong size. Hence, I want you to consider: What are your counseling needs? I have experience providing employment and career counseling, addictions counseling, school/college counseling, trauma and general therapy. I have been in private practice since 2009.
LMHC, EMDR, CBT,…. So what does this mean to you?
Allow me to briefly explain my letters… While I was in graduate school, I was fortunate to be mentored by a woman who was a skilled psychologist, psychiatric nurse and certified addiction therapist. She encouraged me to pursue becoming a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) because addiction counseling must address all functioning areas of a person, not just the substance use. I followed her wise advice, honed my skills and attained CASAC credentialing and NYS Licensure for Mental Health Counseling. I learned to address the whole person regardless of the problem that motivates him/her to make the first appointment. I learned that a person doesn't need to be excessively motivated to initiate changes and get results. I learned that as a therapist, I need to observe closely and listen attentively to the "whole" person because most human problems are intertwined mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I learned that focusing on the whole person is spectacularly effective when addressing career and employment problems and that most career counseling professionals are not equally trained to offer a holistic approach. Best of all, I have witnessed clients make amazing changes in their lives in reasonably short periods of time.
I have completed certifications in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety & Depression and Trauma Informed Therapy. I am trained in using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to address trauma issues. Please ask me about this during our consultation.
If you are seeking a therapist who will address your concerns from a holistic, integrative and pragmatic approach, I encourage you to call me for a
phone consultation. If I am not the right therapist for you, I will be happy to guide you to referrals that are a better fit.
